Overview

The DOE Mission – Broader Than You Might Think

National, economic, and energy security. Scientific and technological innovation. Environmental cleanup.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) mission touches all of these areas. More specifically, DOE works toward:

• Ensuring a steady, consistent, safe supply of energy
• Researching promising technologies, such as:
• Alternative fuels
• Clean power
• Computers
• Energy efficiency
• Genomics
• Pollution prevention
• Testing and protecting the U.S. military’s nuclear weapons systems
• Supporting programs such as:
• The Energy Policy Act of 2005—Securing America’s energy independence.
• The President’s Competitiveness Initiative—Emphasizing basic research in the physical sciences and improving math and technology education.
• The President’s Advanced Energy Initiative—Increasing our national investment in alternative fuel and clean energy technologies.

DOE Needs You

Such groundbreaking work requires highly-qualified, skilled employees. But the current DOE workforce is aging. DOE needs to create a pipeline of talented students and recent graduates that will allow the Department to continue finding innovative solutions to the complex problems facing our nation and the world.

Through the DOE Scholars Program, you can be a part of DOE’s important mission.

What is the DOE Scholars Program?

A unique new approach within DOE for introducing students or recent college graduates to DOE’s mission and operations.

As a participant in the DOE Scholars Program, you will have a competitive edge for familiarizing yourself with DOE functions while showcasing your education, talent, and skills.  Entry- to mid-level appointments are available in a variety of disciplines at facilities nationwide. The DOE Scholars Program presents you with the opportunity to explore a federal career with DOE at various stages in your education.
