The DMCC Meteorological Monitoring Program Appraisal Tool (pdf) is a self-appraisal tool that covers the five attributes of an effective meteorological program:

- Reflect sound management practices and scientific principles that meet applicable regulatory requirements.
- Staffed by professionals who are fully qualified to perform meteorological duties to help protect people, facilities, and equipment from severe or extreme meteorological conditions.
- Supported by adequate communications systems, computer systems, and scientific instruments.
- Provided with meteorological monitoring equipment and instrumentation necessary to resolve the relevant parameters that define atmospheric dispersion processes and identify meteorological conditions that could impact human health, worker safety, or property/equipment.
