News: July 2004
SCAPA had a very productive annual meeting in Washington , DC in early May. Meeting minutes for the 2004 meeting are available.
SCAPA has been quite busy over the last few months. Some recent developments include:
- The old SCAPA Web site has been taken off-line and the new website is operational. The new SCAPA Web site is part of the EMI SIG Web site and is hosted by our colleagues at Oak Ridge Associated Universities. Any comments on the SCAPA portion of the Web site should be addressed to Cliff Glantz.
- A new SCAPA working group has been formed. This group is the TEEL Advisory Group (TAG) and its purpose is to maintain the integrity of the TEEL and HCN development processes and to provide technical oversight of applications involving chemical protective action criteria. More information on the TAG can be found on the new TAG webpage.
- A new searchable TEEL database is now available. SCAPA members are invited to experiment with this prototype and provide comments back to SCAPA. The database can be accessed from the TEELs Web page.
- Doug Craig and Rocky Petrocchi are hard at work in preparing the next set of revisions to the TEELs and HCNs. SCAPA members are invited to propose new chemicals for inclusion in the TEELs.
- A new NARAC DOE User’s Group has been formed and held its first meeting at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in late July. SCAPA members play a prominent role in this group. The July meeting focused on obtaining user input during the design phase of the NARAC’s new iClient software (Version 2.0). Beta-testing of the new iClient is scheduled to begin early in 2005. In addition, NARAC will soon be producing a quarterly newsletter, upgrading access to their User Forum (found on the NARAC Web), and taking other steps to improve the flow of information to NARAC users.
- SCAPA members are working with DOE/EH’s Office of Quality to participate in the establishment and review of new draft software quality assurance standards. These standards are likely to impact quality assurance requirements for all of the consequence assessment models deployed throughout the DOE complex.
