Source Term Working Group (STWG)

The Source Term Working Group examines issues related to source term characterization in support of emergency preparedness and response applications. This working group is involved in addressing issues related to radiological, chemical, biological, and nanotechnology source materials. This working group is particularly concerned with the following properties of materials that have the potential to be released to the environment:

  • Type and quantity
  • Release fraction (with an emphasis on characterizing the dispersible and respirable fractions)
  • Size distribution
  • Physical and chemical properties
  • Deposition and resuspension properties
  • Chemical transformations
  • Radiological decay
  • Energy of release
  • Initial plume behavior
