Project Description:

A postgraduate internship project is available at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Water in Washington, D.C. The internship will be served with the Management Operations Staff in the Project Management Office (PMO). PMO supports information technology project development and execution throughout the Office of Water (OW).

The intern will be involved in OW Web Development efforts, the process of transforming web content into the EPA’s Drupal Content Management System (CMS) and the OW CMS, CommonSpot, and creating embedded geographical information of data into dynamic web pages. This project will provide the intern with valuable skills in communications, geographic information systems (GIS) and project management.

The participant will gain exposure to the processes used to develop EPA communications. The participant will also develop web technical skills and application development skills.


Applicants must have received a bachelor’s degree in information technology, geographic information systems, environmental science, and/or computer science within five years of the desired starting date, or completion of all requirements for the degree should be expected prior to the starting date.

The program is open to all qualified individuals without regard to race, sex, religion, color, age, physical or mental disability, national origin, or status as a Vietnam era or disabled veteran. U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status is preferred (but can also hold an appropriate visa status; however, an H1B visa is not appropriate). The intern must show proof of health and medical insurance. The intern does not become an EPA employee.

This appointment is for one year and may be renewed for up to three additional years depending on funding and the recommendation of EPA. The annual stipend will range from $45,000 up to $55,000. Housing, transportation and relocation costs will not be paid. Additional funds may be available for project-related travel and training.
