The tool is a practical, problem-solving type of learning directed at helping risk communicators overcome the three biggest barriers to effective risk communication:
- Failure to get management support for communication response
- Lack of coordination with other agencies (not considering the consequences for other agencies when making promises to the public)
- Lack of sufficient planning
This interactive program provides a way for risk communication practitioners to practice finding solutions to these barriers through the use of scenario-based learning before they have to use their skills in a real-life situation.
