Review of ANL-E Safety Posters – Potential IH/OS SIG Products
Ralph Hinterman reported that ANL-E continues to work with TRADE to distribute the following two safety posters:

  • Ready to Work (Personal Protective Equipment) Poster
  • Electricity, the Shocking Truth Poster

The ORISE/TRADE disclaimer statement would need to be inserted in the poster which has very limited available space for additional text.

The text referring to whom to call before digging will be revised to include a space for sites to insert their own contact information.

Review of SIG’s Revised Web Site
The Committee thought the revised SIG’s Web was an improvement over the old one. Suggestions for additional improvements included:

  • Make the font bigger or bolder to become more readable over the watermark background logo (R. Hinterman suggestion)
  • Add AIHA as a link (R. Hinterman suggestion)
  • Add Safety Council as a link (R. Hinterman suggestion)
  • Add codes to detect screen size which will adjust the screen to fit the user (L. Howard suggestion)
  • List as “Items of Current Interest”
    • Beryllium (DOE Web site link)
    • Chemical Safety (DOE Web site link)
    • Construction Safety with subtopics (DOE/other Web site links)
    • Electrical Safety with subtopics (DOE/other Web site links)
    • Laser Safety (DOE Web site link)
    • Mold Related Issues (NIOSH/AIHA Web site links)
    • Nanotechnology safety (DOE/NIOSH Web site links)
    • DOE Society for Effective Lessons Learned Sharing (SELLS Web site link)
  • Archive ergonomic as a current interest
  • Add a rollover menu for each of the buttons in the left column on the opening page

DOE Planning and Administration Office Director
Deborah McFalls reported that the new Director for DOE EH-7 Planning and Administration Office is Russell Shearer. Kevin Kelly is assisting with the responsibilities for that position at this time. The new Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health is Steven Cary.

General Discussion
Dan Marsick reported that a Respiratory Protection Program Administrator’s (RPPA) Conference is scheduled for June 8-10, 2005 at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. This is a technical conference for respiratory protection program administrators at the DOE sites. Ralph Hinterman asked if it would be possible to join the conference through a teleconference format since travel dollars are very limited at many DOE sites. Dan noted he would contact Cliff Ledford, the lead for this meeting, about adding teleconference capabilities for people who want to participate but are unable to travel to it. Dan will provide the agenda to the committee when it becomes available.

Bob Kapolka reminded Committee Members that they do receive certification maintenance (CM) points with the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) for participation in Steering Committee related activities.

Ralph Hinterman reported that he has applied for CM points for the October 5, 2004 IH/OS SIG Steering Committee Workshop. He will forward the official approved ABIH letter when received. It is anticipated that a ½ point will be approved for the workshop.

Future Steering Committee Meeting
The next Steering Committee Conference Call Meeting is scheduled for March 29, 2005 , 1:15 – 2:30 EST , conference call number is 301/903-6475.
