THE WORK...and what we learned, A daily approach to Integrated Safety Management (ISM) (Video)
The 29-minute video, contributed by Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), presents an everyday approach to Integrated Safety Management (ISM). It begins by examining the events, insights, and lessons learned surrounding a welding accident that occurred at LANL in April 1999. Candid and personal accounts of mechanical technicians and managers help viewers to reconstruct the events that occurred before, during, and after the accident. Lessons learned are discussed within the broader context of ISM and the 5-Step Process. Through these personal accounts, the viewers come to understand how everyone invests their own skills, insights, and attitudes in their work, and how safety becomes both a professional and personal value. The video is closed-captioned and can be used in a variety of ways. It is short enough to use as a management overview activity, a refresher training in safety meetings, and other formats.
