Young Economists Selected to Meet Nobel Laureates in Germany
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Aug. 11, 2006
FY06-42
OAK RIDGE, Tenn.—Fifty outstanding graduate research students have been selected to attend the 2nd Lindau Meeting in Economic Sciences in Lindau, Germany, Aug. 16-19, to participate in economics lectures and discussions with Nobel Laureates from around the world. These 50 students are being sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
The meeting, which welcomes winners of the Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in memory of Alfred Nobel, adds to the tradition of the annual Lindau Meeting of Nobel Laureates in natural sciences, which began in 1951. The main objective of the Lindau Meeting in Economic Sciences is to provide an opportunity for personal interaction among Nobel Prize winners and young researchers. In Sept. 2004, the first bi-annual Lindau Meeting in Economic Sciences was attended by nearly 200 students. More than 300 young researchers from 40 different countries are expected to participate in this year’s event.
Each morning, Laureates will lecture on a topic of their choice related to economics and then preside over informal roundtable sessions exclusively for students in the afternoons. During lunches and dinners, Laureates will join participants at local restaurants for additional discussions.
