EML Sends Help to the Olympic Games
OAK RIDGE, TENN—Ron Edmond of the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) will assist with emergency management activities during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Edmond, who teaches emergency management courses through ORISE’s Emergency Management Laboratory (EML), leaves this week for Salt Lake City. Edmond will provide administrative support for the overnight shift during his 12 days at the Olympic Games.
“This is an exiting opportunity,” says Edmond. “It provides the chance to see all the processes in place for emergency management. In observing this I hope to bring back ideas that can enhance our training and the performance of those I train.”
Last fall, EML provided its Emergency Public Information Pocket Guide to Utah’s Department of Public Safety for use during the Olympic Games. EML’s pocket guide offers principles and approaches for communicating to the media and the public during an emergency situation. EML provided the pocket guide on disk so that it may be reprinted and distributed to public information officers, police and fire personnel, elected officials, and other individuals who may need it.
