Wiley will be instrumental in these training courses as well. He will teach selected portions of the courses, consult with the REAC/TS director regarding the medical content of the courses, and assist in preparing educational and training materials.
Prior to joining REAC/TS, Dr. Wiley was a Professor of Radiation Oncology at East Carolina University where he previously served as Interim Director of the East Carolina University Cancer Center and as Adjunct Professor in the Department of Physics. He has more than 35 years of medical experience in Radiation Oncology and Nuclear Medicine and is Professor Emeritus of Radiology and Human Oncology at the University of Wisconsin.
Highlights of his extensive career include serving on the medical staff and faculty at the University of Wisconsin Medical Center for more than 20 years, as medical director at the U.S. Naval Radiological Defense Lab in San Francisco, Calif., and as a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve (Retired). Dr. Wiley was also appointed by the Governor of Wisconsin to serve on the State’s Council on Biotechnology and the Radioactive Waste Review Board. He also served as a consultant to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Committee on Reactor Safeguards, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and the National Cancer Institute.

Wiley is also a Fellow of the American College of Radiology, the American College of Nuclear Medicine, and the American College of Preventive Medicine.
“Dr. Wiley brings a unique background to REAC/TS with a Ph.D. in radiological sciences and his extensive medical career in radiation therapy and oncology,” said REAC/TS Director Bob Ricks. “His unique understanding of radiation effects in a therapeutic setting will only add to REAC/TS expertise in treating patients with accidental radiation exposures.
