Most DOE Scholars appointments are short-term, i.e. summer internships of ten weeks or less. Longer term appointments may be made by a DOE office for up to a maximum of one year at a time (contingent on site/office funding and program need).
Appointments may also be extended in one-year increments. For post graduates, the maximum length of time you can spend in an ORISE program is five years from your initial start date.
An extension is initiated by DOE. Once ORISE has received approval of the extension from DOE, and any necessary funding information, we will send you a letter with the new appointment end date and any additional changes.
