For all NETL internship-based programs, you are not considered an employee of the National Energy Technology Laboratory, ORISE, ORAU, DOE, the host facility, or any other office or agency. Instead, you are a participant in an education program at NETL or the NETL-designated facility, and you are affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.
When accepting the Terms of Appointment, you agree that the stipend payments shall not be construed as an employment relationship and acknowledge that there are no employment-related benefits (such as paid vacations, sick pay, maternity leave, unemployment compensation, worker’s compensation, etc.) associated with this appointment.
As a guest at an NETL facility, you are expected to devote your time and effort in pursuing the activities of the research project and to avoiding activities that would conflict with this expectation.
As a participant you should:
- Be at NETL or the host facility during normal business hours.
- Observe and conform to all applicable rules, regulations, and requirements of NETL or the host facility including, but not limited to, those respecting environment, safety, security, use of government computers, operating and health physics procedures, drug-free workplace notification requirements, and conduct.
- Participate in the ongoing research activities of NETL.
- Recognize that you are a guest at NETL.
