Radiochemistry lab makes perfect score on recent performance test

The ORISE Radiological and Environmental Analytical Laboratory (REAL) recently achieved a 100 percent acceptance score in a performance test for quality.

The REAL facility performs independent analysis for DOE and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission of environmental samples, construction materials, waste materials, as well as other sample types for radiological and metal contaminants. 

To ensure the lab meets or exceeds industry standards for quality, REAL participates in performance evaluation programs that test its ability to properly analyze various matrices for radioactive isotope content at environmental levels. DOE Idaho Operations Office conducts the Mixed Analyte Performance Evaluation Program (MAPEP) for environmental radiological laboratories nationwide.  

In a recent MAPEP acceptance test, REAL made a perfect 100 percent score. This perfect score reflects the dedication of the laboratory staff and assures the quality and reliability of its laboratory measurements on which regulatory decisions are based. 

REAL has a solid track record of performance well above the average for labs participating in the program and achieved a 99.3 percent acceptance score during fiscal year 2020.
