The Division of Mathematical Sciences at the National Science Foundation will provide funding that will support summer internships for graduate students in mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics. The program will support internships at domestically based facilities, including, but not exclusively, National Laboratories, private industries and nonprofit organizations. The internships are intended to introduce students to applications of mathematics outside of academia. The internships are intended for doctoral students that plan to pursue a career in and out of the academia field.

Applicants interested in the following disciplinary areas of the mathematical sciences supported by the NSF Division of Mathematical Sciences are encouraged to apply.

Applicants are encouraged to review the list of disciplinary areas at:

Applicants interested in other disciplinary areas in mathematical sciences may also be considered. Applicants will have the opportunity to specify their area of interest in the application.

The Program is administered by ORAU through the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) under an agreement between NSF and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). ORISE focuses on scientific initiatives including educating the next generation of scientists.
