2018 Career Connections Day Recap
On June 20, 2018, ORISE’s Science Education and Workforce Development Programs office at ORNL, in collaboration with the ORNL Office of Research Excellence, ORNL Human Resources, and the ORNL Postdoctoral Association, presented Career Connections Day at ORNL.
During the inaugural event, presenters discussed how connections have changed their career paths and provided suggestions on how to build successful and meaningful connections.
Speakers included ORNL Deputy for Science and Technology Michelle Buchanan; Lee Riedinger, director of the Bredesen Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Graduate Education at the University of Tennessee; and Eric Benson, an organizational development and training consultant with ORNL Human Resources.
The event also featured a panel of ORNL and ORISE leaders as well as ORNL research staff, who discussed the importance of building connections and fielded questions from the audience.
To conclude the event, ORISE employees staffed professional development stations, offering resume/CV critiques, interview tips, and LinkedIn profile reviews. Representatives from ORNL directorates and support groups provided information on future career opportunities at the lab, and ORNL professional organizations were on hand to connect with attendees.
More than 350 people attended the event.
