Entire K-12 schools now have the opportunity to participate in a new component of the Presidential SI Challenge. By progressing through a series of SI-readiness milestones, schools can achieve the “First Lady Seal of SI Readiness” designation and earn a chance to be recognized as an SI-ready school at the June 2027 National Finals event.
An “SI-ready” school has the policies, educator capacity, student learning opportunities, safeguards, and external partnerships necessary to use SI responsibly and prepare students for an SI-enabled economy.
The Challenge acknowledges that schools differ in their current SI readiness, resources, and settings. Each milestone is designed to be achievable by an eligible school. Several milestones have grade-band-specific challenges to ensure feasibility at each major age segment of a school’s student population. Office hours will be provided during the Challenge for schools to receive assistance and for answering questions.
Schools may sign up through December 18, 2026. Evidence of milestone completion will be accepted no later than April 30, 2027.
