The Joint Science and Technology Institute (JSTI) STEM Club is an initiative that aims to create and support high-quality STEM clubs in high-needs high schools. STEM clubs are located at schools across the nation and they serve as co-curricular programming. The JSTI STEM Club, managed by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) identifies groups of teachers who are committed to starting or expanding existing afterschool STEM clubs with the support of school administrators. This initiative provides an opportunity for teachers to participate in a multi-day workshop where the focus is on training them on the nature of STEM clubs, curricula options, and how to use and maintain STEM equipment and materials. Since a lack of resources is often a major obstacle for teachers in developing and maintaining afterschool programs through this initiative participating teachers are provided materials and ongoing access to the equipment needed to conduct STEM club activities at their schools.
