  1. How much does it cost to attend JSTI Virtual?

JSTI is free to participating students. All expenses are paid by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA).

  1. What materials do I need to have for JSTI Virtual?

Participants do not need to provide anything. JSTI will send a box of materials needed for the program in advance.

  1. I’m not sure if my Internet or computer is good enough for a virtual program. Should I drop out?

Definitely not! Please let JSTI staff know about your issues and we will help you to troubleshoot them and find a way to participate.

  1. What is the time commitment for participants in JSTI Virtual?

Participants will spend up to 3 hours/day on Saturday and Sunday in orientation meetings. Monday-Friday, participants will be in research groups from 10:00am – 4:30pm EDT. Optional, but encouraged, evening activities will occur at 7:30pm EDT on most evenings.

  1. What is JSTI Time?

The participants, mentors, and staff of JSTI will be spread out over at least 6 time zones across the world. To help to avoid miscommunication about times, we will use only Eastern Time (EDT) when discussing the timing of JSTI activities. During orientation, we will all set a watch to “JSTI Time” to ensure consistency among participants.

  1. Is it ok for me to make other plans during the two weeks of JSTI?

We ask that you mark your calendars for the entirety of July 10 – 23 and commit to attending all JSTI activities. Once you receive the official calendar in June, you may be able to squeeze in other commitments surrounding your time in JSTI.
