    A complete application consists of:

    • Zintellect Profile
    • Proposed Role and Responsibilities
      • Title
      • Position description: The position description should be a maximum of two pages and summarize the post-graduates role and responsibilities at the host facility, how the role supports the mission of the host facility, role of the host facility and mentor, timeline, expected outcomes, and relevance to marine energy.
    • Mentor at External Hosting Facility
      • Name and contact information
      • Host Facility Name
      • Department/Division
      • Position Title of Mentor
      • Letter of Support from the proposed mentor. The letter must demonstrate knowledge of and concurrence with the proposed position description and agreement to host the applicant if an appointment is offered.
    • Records showing a degree recently obtained (24 months) from a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral program requiring thesis. Transcripts or copies of the student academic records provided by the applicant from internal institutional systems may be submitted. Proof of graduation must be submitted before the start of your appointment. Applicants who are enrolled in a degree program at the time of the application, but will graduate prior to the start of the appointment, will receive a conditional offer pending proof of graduation.
    • Resume (2-page limit)
    • Professional summary detailing knowledge, skills, and background in an area aligned with marine energy.

    All documents must be in English or include an official English translation. Documents sent by email, postal mail, or fax will not be considered. All supporting materials must be uploaded as PDF files so the document can be searched by Zintellect's search engine. Scanned items are not optimal for search engines. PDF must not require special certificates or passwords to open. Max file size is 10MB.

  • Review of Applications

    Applications will be reviewed for eligibility and compliance before moving forward to the merit review and final selection.

    Applications will be collected and undergo an eligibility check. Thereafter applications will be reviewed. Application reviews are based on scientific and/or technical merit, relevance to marine energy, and support of the hosting facility. Criteria includes:

    Review Criteria:

    • Skills-Position Alignment (50%)
      • Are the applicant’s academic background, skills, and experience appropriate for the position?
    • Relevance to Marine Energy (25%)
      • Is the proposed position relevant to marine energy?
    • Support of Hosting Facility (25%)
      • Can the proposed hosting facility provide the necessary resources to support the responsibilities of the position?
      • Does the mentor/applicant match appear to be good? Are both parties committed to having a supportive and productive relationship?
  • Eligibility

    In order to qualify for a Marine Energy Fellowship: Post-Graduate Track appointment, you must meet all outlined criteria for eligibility. Read more to learn about eligibility requirements.

    Applicants must:

    • Be a U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident
    • Be a recent graduate of a full-time bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral graduate student at a qualified program at an accredited U.S. college or university. The degree must have been obtained within of the application deadline for the program. You are still eligible to apply pending proof of graduation. This document must be submitted before the start of the appointment. Applicants who are enrolled in a degree program at the time of the application, but will graduate prior to the start of the appointment, will receive a conditional offer pending proof of graduation.
    • Have conducted research, development, and/or testing in an area aligned with marine energy.
    Past and current fellows may apply for and are eligible to participate in the program up to 24 months total

  • Timeline

    This fellowship is open for applications during the fall of each year with two deadlines for a summer start date and fall start date.

    This program is administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE).
