NNSA-IMPACT is designed to promote the education and development of the next generation of scientists and other professionals to meet current and future mission needs of the NNSA by providing an enhanced training environment that exposes participants to challenges unique to the NNSA mission.

IMPACT supports the NNSA’s management and governance framework to have a world-class workforce by enabling succession planning, knowledge preservation, ongoing training, and workforce development, to ensure the future of the nuclear security enterprise (NSE). The program draws on unique talents and perspectives from students and recent graduates from Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) across the nation to enhance NNSA’s career and leadership pipeline by offering talented undergraduate and graduate students and recent graduates summer or year-long internship opportunities at NNSA headquarters, site offices, and national laboratories. Opportunities involve projects focused on engineering, science, research, technology, policy, business, and government relations.

As program participants, interns will develop the experience needed to "jump-start" their careers and explore future opportunities within the federal government and nuclear security enterprise. Interns are mentored by leading scientists, engineers, and other top professionals to develop their skills and enhance leadership capabilities.
