The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) accelerates development and facilitates deployment of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies and market-based solutions to strengthen U.S. energy security, environmental quality, and economic vitality. EERE leads the U.S. Department of Energy's efforts to develop and deliver market-driven solutions for energy-saving homes, buildings, and manufacturing; sustainable transportation; and renewable electricity generation.

EERE’s Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO) partners with industry, small business, universities, and other stakeholders to identify and invest in emerging technologies with the potential to create high-quality domestic manufacturing jobs and enhance the global competitiveness of the United States. AMO establishes collaborative communities focused on developing and commercializing targeted technologies; plays a leadership role in the national interagency Advanced Manufacturing Partnership; and encourages a culture of continuous improvement in corporate energy management. Their investments have high impact, use project diversity to spread risk, target nationally important innovation at critical decision points, and contribute to quantifiable energy savings.

The Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IACMI) is committed to delivering a public-private partnership to increase domestic production capacity, grow manufacturing and create jobs across the US composite industry. IACMI’s collaboration of industry, research institutions and state partners is committed to accelerating development and adoption of cutting-edge manufacturing technologies for low-cost, energy-efficient manufacturing of advanced polymer composites for vehicles, wind turbines, and compressed gas storage. IACMI’s research, development, and demonstration programs will be driven by major industry participation with a focus on reducing technical risk and developing a robust supply chain to support a growing advanced composites industry. Encouragement and development of small- and medium-enterprise industry participants and long term sustainability are key objectives of the Institute. IACMI is the fifth Institute in the National Network of Manufacturing Innovation, supported by the US Department of Energy’s Advanced Manufacturing Office.

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security. As the nation's premier research laboratory, ORNL is one of the world's most capable resources for transforming the next generation of scientific discovery into solutions for rebuilding and revitalizing America's manufacturing industries. Manufacturing industries engage ORNL’s expertise in materials synthesis, characterization, and process technology to reduce technical risk and validate investment for innovations targeting products of the future.

DOE’s Manufacturing Demonstration Facility, established at ORNL, helps industry adopt new manufacturing technologies to reduce life-cycle energy and greenhouse gas emissions, lower production cost, and create new products and opportunities for high paying jobs. An underpinning objective of the MDF is to maximize the return on government investment by achieving the broadest possible domestic dissemination of new technology. To this end, the primary approach of the MDF is to work closely with process equipment and materials suppliers to advance process state-of-art and materials availability and with end users in cost-matched projects to develop and deploy the technologies to promising applications.

The mission of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting Mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.
