Dr. Dhanushka Udayanga is currently an ORISE participant at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS), Systematic Mycology and Microbiology Laboratory in Beltsville, Maryland. His research focuses on the molecular systematics and genomics of agriculturally important fungal plant pathogens.
ORISE appointments are generally made for one year at a time. Appointments may be extended in increments of up to one year, contingent upon project needs and funding availability. The maximum length of time a participant can spend in the ORISE program is five years from his/her initial start date.
An extension is initiated by the mentor. A mentor who wishes to extend a participant’s appointment should contact their ARS Administrative Officer for information on the internal ARS processes that need to be completed for an extension. Once ORISE has received approval of the extension, and any necessary funding information, we will send the participant a letter with the new appointment end date and any changes to the stipend level.
