About DoD

With more than 50 Department of Defense (DoD) globally located laboratories and research centers within the Army, Navy and Air Force engaged in projects under the auspices of ORISE/SPP programs, participants have derived significant benefits from these research experiences. The DoD agencies hosting ORISE participants provide mentored educational research-based internships for current and recently graduated students of all academic levels, university faculty and established scientists that support the development of the next generation of researchers and scientists across the federal landscape. Mentors are experienced and highly qualified scientists and engineers that conduct critical defense related research projects. To that end, participants who accept a highly competitive appointment within the DoD support research under the direction of accomplished mentors and gain valuable first-hand experience in STEM disciplines that are aligned with DoD priorities and their academic and professional aspirations.
