Bio: I received my B.S. and M.S. degrees in Biology from Georgia Southern University in 2007 and 2011 respectively. I served as a research scientist at Georgia Tech from 2011 to 2013 and remained at Georgia Tech from 2013-2018 completing my PhD degree in molecular biology. I was an ORISE postdoctoral fellow at the Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory from 2019 to April 2021 receiving an Intelligence Community postdoctoral fellowship in October of 2020. As a molecular microbiologist, I am broadly interested in host-microbe interactions and in finding practical ways of manipulating the microbiome to improve host health. Past work in this area has included quantifying the effects of host ecology, diet, and environmental conditions on the structure of gut microbiomes using fish as a model system. More recent work has been centered on finding ways to improve recovery of virus signal from poultry microbiome samples using untargeted, next-generation sequencing (NGS). I have now accepted a position as a Lead Life Science Scientist with Kimberly-Clark and will be focused on skin microbiome research going forward.
