The Joint Science and Technology Office for Chemical and Biological Defense (JSTO-CBD) supports the following Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) activities to attract, inspire, and develop exceptional STEM talent across the educational continuum to sustain the Department's technological edge.
The Joint Science and Technology Institute East offers a two-week residential hands-on research experience to high school students and teachers from across the United States and from Department of Defense schools around the world. Research groups are mentored by Department of Defense researchers and other experts. Additionally, there is a one-week residential STEM challenge experience for middle school students from across the country.
The Joint Science and Technology Institute West is a two-week residential research experience for high school students 16 years old or older. Students are mentored by national laboratory researchers and lodged on the campus of the University of New Mexico.
