ORISE Health Studies publishes annual reports for NRC, DOE

DOE Occupational Radiation Exposure Report

Released to the public in October 2024, ORISE prepared the “Occupational Radiation Exposure Report at Commercial Nuclear Power Reactors and Other Facilities 2022: Fifty-Fifth Annual Report” (NUGREG-0713, Volume 44) [.PDF]. The document summarizes the occupational exposure data maintained in the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC) Radiation Exposure Information and Reporting System (REIRS) database. ORISE has managed this database on behalf of the NRC since 2004 and processes more than 150,000 records annually.

ORISE also prepared the “DOE Occupational Radiation Exposure Report for CY 2023” (.PDF) that was released to the public in December 2024. The document presents the results of analyses of occupational radiation exposures at DOE facilities during 2023, including occupational radiation exposure information for all DOE employees, contractors, and subcontractors, as well as members of the public in controlled areas that are monitored for exposure to radiation. Data from the 2023 report comes from DOE’s Radiation Exposure Monitoring System (REMS), a key asset in examining the occupational radiation exposure received at DOE facilities. These surveillance reports provide critical information to DOE and the NRC on radiation exposure programs while demonstrating transparency to workers and the public in the agencies’ commitment to the highest standards of safety.
