During the National Academies Forum on Medical and Public Health Preparedness for Disasters and Emergencies March 30-31, 2026, REAC/TS Associate Director Dr. Mark Ervin (center) presented an innovative solution for improving clinical outcomes following radiation mass casualties.

During the opening briefing, Ervin delivered a talk titled “Cheating the Queue: How Pre-Hospital Intervention Modeled on War Trauma Care Can Maximize Casualty Survival Following a Nuclear Mass Casualty Event.” Ervin’s remarks generated robust commentary among the 50+ in attendance and resulted in several requests for follow-on discussions with subject matter experts from the disaster preparedness and trauma systems fields.
