REAC/TS conducts international training in Slovakia for Ukrainian professionals
The Radiation Emergency Assistance Center/Training Site (REAC/TS) conducted a four-day International Medical Management of Radiation Injuries (I-MED) course from July 21–24, 2026.
Demonstrating its international reach, the course was presented to a diverse group of participants from Ukraine and hosted in Bratislava, Slovakia. The attendees included medical professionals, emergency responders, and specialists in radiological safety. The curriculum addressed the fundamentals of radiobiology, as well as the medical care and management of patients affected by radiological and nuclear incidents.
Topics included radiation physics; radiation detection, measurement, and identification; early evaluation and treatment of acute radiation syndrome, cutaneous injuries, and contamination control; and strategies to mitigate risks to patients, providers, and facilities. A total of 28 participants successfully completed the course.
